Stag Beetle Loggery

In 2018 we built a stag beetle loggery, with help from pupils of the Kingston Academy.  This provides an ideal environment in which these strange and elusive creatures can grow. They live in dead wood, in larval form for 5-7 years, then emerge as adults and can be seen flying around, spectacularly, during the summer in search of a mate. They are one of the largest British beetles and are harmless despite their fierce appearance. Like so many invertebrates, they are in decline, though faring better in this part of London.
